Sugar Labs offers ubiquitous access to Sugar in a USB (Universal Serial Bus) flash memory drive (stick). The Sugar on a Stick project gives children access to their Sugar on any computer in their environment with just a USB memory stick. The Sugar on a Stick Strawberry release is based on Fedora 11 with the latest updates as of June 22.

Taking advantage of the Fedora LiveUSB, it’s possible to store everything you need to run Sugar on a single USB memory stick (minimum size 1GB). This small USB device can boot into the Sugar learning platform on different computers at home, at school, or at an after-school program, bypassing the software on the those computers.

In fact, Sugar on a Stick will work even if the computer does not have a hard-drive. With Sugar on a Stick, the learning experience is the same on any computer: at school, at home, at the library, or an after-school center.

The Fedora version contains a compressed copy of Fedora 11 that will boot, run in memory, and maintain changes on a USB flash drive with a standard FAT16 or FAT32 partition. The files coexist with other files the user may have or put on the disk. Different types of configurations are being designed to offer the options to run virtualizations or emulations and to use virtual machines on existing computers, saving the Sugar Home folder (the learner’s work) on the Stick for use at another workstation.

For getting Sugar on a Stick you’ll need a USB Flash drive (at least 1 GB capacity) to install space for saving your work and changes to the system.

You can also burn the ISO image to CD and then boot it like a LiveCD, but no work or changes will be saved after shutdown.)

Btw, you can create your Sugar Stick by follow the direction at Here, and download Sugar image at Here, and tutorial about how to use Sugar can be found at Here.

Tiny Core Linux is a very small (10 MB) minimalist Linux Desktop. It is based on Linux 2.6 kernel, Busybox, Tiny X, Fltk, and Jwm. The core runs entirely in ram and boots very quickly, and now it releases version 2.1

It is not a complete desktop nor is all hardware completely supported. It represents only the core needed to boot into a very minimal X desktop typically with wired internet access.

The user has complete control over which applications and/or additional hardware to have supported, be it for a desktop, a netbook, an appliance, or server, selectable by the user by installing additional applications from online repositories, or easily compiling most anything you desire using tools provided.

The developer’s goal is the creation of a nomadic ultra small desktop capable of booting from cdrom, pendrive, or frugally from a hard drive. The desktop boots extremely fast and is able to support additional applications and hardware of the users choice. While Tiny Core always resides in ram, additional applicatons extensions can either reside in ram, mounted from a persistent storage device, or installed into a persistent storage device.

For more informations, updates and download of Tiny Core Linux, feel free to visit here.

The Privatix Live System is a portable system for installing Debian in which private data are encrypted. A few weeks ago, the Ubuntu Privacy Remix released a USB stick installable system, private and sensitive data is securely. Markus Mandalka now has a comparable system based on Debian GNU / Linux.

The “Privatix” system can be called as a live CD, for example, anonymous surfing via Gate or the repair of a system using the included encryption tools allows. With the CD is, however, according to the author, even without a fully encrypted hard Debian system on a USB stick or an external hard drive to install the PC or on other than isolated environment for keeping and processing senisbler data for online banking, for intranet access or encrypted communications can be used.

Since the entire operating system and all applications to run from the USB stick be loaded on each PC used neither space nor a specific installation or operating systems or programs. The data on the PC itself can be used, but private data and settings, such as Documents, e-mails or PGP key to the encrypted USB stick is stored, where they are protected by a password-protected.

The established system is a largely normal Debian 5.0 and should be easy to expand and update security updates. While the final version of Privatix until after the release of Debian 5.0 “Lenny” will be, we can now already the beta version of the download page to download the project.

More info about Privatix can be found on Mandalika.

After twelve months of preparation and time for the adoption of the “BKA Act” is the free project “Ubuntu Privacy Remix” to the public.

Ubuntu Privacy Remix wants a lot of protection against “Federal Trojan” spying and other measures. It is a modified live CD based on Ubuntu Linux up. It is not for a permanent installation on the hard thought. The goal of Ubuntu Privacy Remix is a closed environment for our work, in which confidential data securely processed and encrypts and decrypts them. It used to on the computer system remains untouched.

The system aims to protect data against any unauthorized access. Therefore Truecrypt and GnuPG for encryption provided. But encryption alone is not enough, because unauthorized could also try before encryption or after decryption the data to steal. The processing, encryption and decryption of data with high confidentiality should therefore, according to the project in a system that never contacted untrusted networks, there is no unencrypted data stored on hard disks can also not go unnoticed or accidentally, and no possibility of spying software offers itself as a viable system einzunisten. That wants to 8:04 based on Ubuntu Ubuntu Privacy Remix reach.

According to the team, the system is completely sealed off, you can not activate the network hardware and is based on free software in the source code to its functioning to be reviewed. To work with a fixed system is less inconvenient to make offers Ubuntu Privacy Remix »advanced Truecrypt volumes”, which a number of configurations such as GnuPG program settings, OpenOffice spell checker, etc. permanently and safely within the encrypted disk can store. They are then automatically after opening the volumes available.

Ubuntu Privacy Remix can be downloaded from the project site, or using the manual itself will be created.

We all know Compiz, a compositing window manager that brought very interesting desktop effects to Linux, and then Beryl came about as a fork of Compiz before it ultimately turned into Compiz Fusion. Today though, on Christmas eve, the world can now meet Compiz++.

Compiz++ is a branch of Compiz that brings several new features to the table and there are huge changes. First off, the Composite and OpenGL layers to Compiz have been separated so that Compiz++ no longer is just a compositing window manager. If your graphics hardware or drivers don’t support Composite, you can now run Compiz++ as a normal window manager without compositing effects. Other rendering back-ends could be introduced to Compiz++ so that the windowing manager could render to say X Render or Clutter. Compiz++ also provides re-parented decorations.

The Compiz++ branch no longer has multi-display or multi-screen support since that work was never completed and was ill-maintained so users should now start one Compiz instance per screen, use Xinerama, or use RandR 1.2 functionality that’s still supported. Compiz++ also introduces support for tiled textures, which allows larger pixmaps to be supported whereby its broken into smaller textures to avoid such limitations.

When it comes to plug-ins in Compiz++ there is a new plug-in (WRAP/UNWRAP) interface. Compiz++ also doesn’t allow for direct access to memory variables but instead requires get and set functions, which should further stabilize the plug-in ABI.

As implied by the new name, Compiz++ is no longer written in C but its core has been recoded in C++. Rewriting Compiz in C++ allows for smart functions, easier and smarter private systems, easier initialization and clean-up, and there are numerous other advantages. The build system for Compiz has also been converted to CMake.

Compiz++ is created by Dennis Kasprzyk as the possible future for Compiz. However, it’s up to the Compiz community as a whole as whether they turn their focus from Compiz to Compiz++ or continue with the status quo.

Compiz++’s announcement can be read on the Compiz mailing list.

Here are three racing games for Linux, on this article I assume you use Ubuntu:

VDRIFT

Want realistic racing? Then you need to try VDrift. First released in 2005 by Joe Venzon and inspired by Gran Turismo, Venzon created a simple racing game powered by the Vamos Automotive Simulator. Two years, three programmers, and a ton of code later, it’s got extremely realistic physics, 28 cars, 19 tracks, AI players, networking, and great looking graphics.

VDrift hasn’t (yet) made it into the Ubuntu repositories (though the data package made it in. Odd). Luckily, GetDeb includes an Ubuntu package for it.

TORCS

If you want a powerful racing game, look no further than TORCS, The Open Racing Car Simulator. It’s gone from a 1997 2D soapbox derby simulator to a powerful 3D racing game with championships, tons of tracks, a thriving community, and all the third party tracks and cars you can download. There are even two online championships: TORCS Driving Championship and
The TORCS Racing Board.

To install TORCS, just use your favorite package manager (apt, aptitude, Synaptic, Adept, etc) to install the ‘torcs’ package from the universe repository.

TRIGGER

If arcade-style racing is your style, give Trigger a try. It’s simple: they give you a car, and you have to navigate a tricky path full of off-road terrain with an extremely tippy car.
Go too fast, and you risk flipping off of the road. But move too slowly, and you risk being dominated by your cunning AI opponents.

To install, just use your favorite package manager to grab the ‘trigger’ package in
the universe repository.
